New PC on a budget

Around a couple months back my main motherboard snap, crackled and popped its way into the afterlife, and this week the temporary PC I am using has really been kicking up a fuss and feels like it’s about to bite the big one too, so I have been looking into getting my upgrade done ASAP.

I Intend to go for a nice Intel Core 2 Duo E2180, should be a nice improvement over my last one but the whole process of picking out components has been rather annoying since pc tech has recently made quite a leap forward little did I know.

On many of the new motherboards the double IDE slots are now being replaced by 4 SATA slots for improved performance and speed (1 IDE port remains), so where as before i had 2 DVD drives and a Hardrive, i would now need to either drop a DVD or go for a new HDD (which I indeed went for due to thier low cost and greatly improved speeds).

Not only that but AGP slots are also on the way out making way for the PCI-Express instead, so I can’t make do with my old gfx card, a new one must be obtained (still deciding on that).

All this makes me very sad, but I have really been squeezing in some good components at the lowest price.. and leaving an option to later either overclock or upgrade to better very easily.

Yup, building a pc from scratch nowadays can be a hassle. Having said that i bought, built my PC from the ground up again 16ish months ago. These parts were all brand new but not the lastest technology at the time.

My brother has been building 3 computers simaltaniously but with all used pieces (these comps were made to be sold), this has proved to be disaster. Graphics cards not working properly, Motherboards faulting.

My comp spec is AMD 62 x2 Dual 3800+, 2 Gb RAM, Asus mobo, 80 Gb HDD, 1x DVD drive, 500w PSU, ATI Radeon 1900x. This was all achiveable at a resonable price tag, even for a non hardcore gamer. (220 squid, 16ish months ago) so even witha poor CPU i can play games like CSS, UT3, C&C3 and CoD4 on high settings thanks to my GFx card.

This is sounding great. If you succeed in building yourself a new kickass computer, you can finally get out of COD4 land; maybe pick up a new headset, and come get yourself trapped in the mmo world. Jk i kid the mmo. But this is awesome cuz you can now spend some time on some computer games “cough CSS”

Well I plan to get it this Friday.. Building it shouldn’t be a problem, and i have selected a nice graphics card 10.1 DirectX compatable that should last me into next gen. I expect everything will pretty much fit together nicely. I look forward to getting some PC gaming done by the weekend!
